Girl Scouts at GenCon!

This is REALLY cool! Horray for the Girl Scouts of Central Indiana for introducing girls to gaming! From the Girl Scouts of Central Indiana website:

Gen Con, the best attended gaming convention in the world, is coming to Indianapolis! During Gen Con, Girl Scouts of Central Indiana have the unique opportunity to attend a gaming workshop designed specifically for their age level.
Girls can get lost in a phantasm of art exhibits and stare at jaw-dropping costumes.
They can meet the movers and shakers of the gaming industry, check out the latest games and, of course, play to their hearts

It was horrid! T_T

I went (was 15 at the time) and had a horrible time for the most part. They tried to take the older girls to the Bella Sera booth. Another girl and I hung back because we thought we were getting to learn more about anime, not some games. The most about anime we came in contact with was the begining and the end. I was sorely disappointed. For one, the people who were from Girl Scouts had no idea what was going on. We're not going to do the GenCon thing through Girls Scouts again (it's how we found out about it though) but we're going to go on our own. Plus, we didn't do ANY of what the discription was from the Girl Scout site, which was really disapointing. I already know most of what was going on for what was told.

This is so awesome! My

This is so awesome! My daughter is a Brownie Girl Scout. We will have to check it out!

Did we meet there?

I think I might have meet you and your family there. Was your daughter in the costume contest as a Red Dragon? How did she do? My youngest had fun at the girl scout event but my older daughter , she's 15, said " It was OK". She did like your idea of a class for GS teaching charactor make-up. By the way my name is Shannon

Hi!

Yep, that was us - ShoshieB1 and MikeIT. I think the Girl Scout event was tricky since it was for both non-gamers and gamers alike. The brownies seemed to get a good balance for both audiences, but it sounds like maybe the GS group didn't get something as good.

Our daughter actually ended up winning the children's category. She is apparently a natural performer because she got in front of what looked like a couple thousand people and really hammed it up. Shoshanna thinks the introduction I wrote was what did the trick: "This is the dragon fairy princess from Dragonland. Her first decree was that all children should have a healthy meal and breakfast. (Yes, she really said that.) For a hobby, she likes to fly around and visit the unicorns."
