Wizard World 2007 - a n00b's review

So, I went to the 11th Wizard World this past Saturday, the 11th. I'd never gone before, so I was really excited.
As an aside, I'm 7 months pregnant, so that did add a new and unique challenge.
I had a great time. I did not make it to any panels - I went to the area where they were, but it was too crowded and confusing, and I didn't want to wait in line for an hour to be in the wrong place. I'm hoping maybe next year
. No autographs or skethces either.
So mainly my boyfriend and I wandered the boothes, selling area and the Artist Alley. Marvel's booth area wasn't the most exciting, it was mostly lines to get signatures. DC's area was more fun with things to read and some cool swag. Aspen's booth had a TON of awesome sketches, and it was neat to see Michael Turner there. Wandering the boothes of the smaller publishers was fun, seeing current and upcoming projects and chatting briefly with the people involved. I like indie comics too, so that was a treat.
My little geek heart swelled with joy at all the AWESOME stuff to buy! Besides more backissues and trades than I've EVER seen, there were toys and figs of all kinds - old skool, new and anime, trading card collections, awesome t-shirts and hoodies, tons of DVDs, weapons, and even ren faire type garb and goth attire. Part of the fun was just seeing everything that was there. Then the fun was to budget and figure out what could be bought
.
Artist Alley was REALLY fun. There are all KINDS of artists there, from main stream to indie comics, people breaking out, and people who just produce... ART!
Walking the aisles, looking at all the gorgeous work, with SO much variety, it was very neat. There was even a tarot deck artist, a deck that I've wanted since I first saw it! I got it signed
.
People watching was fun too. Lots of people dressed up as all kinds of characters - mostly Marvel and DC, but there were all kinds of characters. There was a costume contest, but I did not make it to that either. Some of the costumes were just so intriquite, it was a treat to see them.
Being pregnant was a bit of a challenge. There's really only one place to get anything to eat or drink that's rediculously priced with even more rediculous lines, so I did not keep as hydrated as I should have. The crowds were of almost epic proportions, so while crowds don't actually bother me, I kept bumping into people and things, since I'm not quite used to my new proportions yet. And after walking around for 4 hours, I was just wiped OUT.
So, overall I'd give Wizard World a good review. I wanted to see and do more, but *I* was part of my impediment there. I am looking forward to next year, and possibly starting my little one on the path to geek
.
