Brownie Girl Scouts earn "Games Around the World" Patch at Gencon

I want to thank Sephera for posting the story about the Girl Scouts being at Gen Con! We had a total blast! I contacted the Girl Scout council office of Indianapolis and let them know that we would already be attending the Con with our daughter. I also let them know that I am a troop leader and that PhiPhiBabe is a Brownie Scout and asked where we could sign up. I got all the information about the Brownie event they were having and found out the Brownies would earn the "Games Around The World" patch.
The day before the event MikeIT and I discussed our schedule. We realized that we would not have time to go back to the hotel after the Brownie event in time to get PhiPhiBabe ready for the costume contest she wanted to enter. So we dressed her up in full Dragon Fairy Princess garb, threw on her brownie sash and headed out.
Obviously she got a lot of attention at the meeting since it was mainly a group of Brownies, Scouts and Troop leaders who have never experienced gaming or Gen Con before. This gave us the opportunity to talk a little about Gamerchicksrule.com and our mission to bring more women and girls into gaming.
I'm really excited because we were asked by the Program Development Manager of Girl Scouts of Central Indiana to help out with a National conference of Girl Scouts next year. Additionally I now have all sorts of ideas for PhiPhiBabe's Brownie troop and our own local Girl Scout Council.
The girls all made fast friends as they colored pictures of clowns and circus animals. Then they placed the pictures on the ground like a board game and jumped from square to square becoming a playing piece in the game.
Next we broke for lunch before heading off to the Con. The girls all got to try out some great games by Mayfair Games Inc. including "Beetles" and "Hey! That's my Fish!". Lastly we all headed off for the Bella Sara pavillion and the girls became absorbed in their wonderful world of collectible cards and horses. I'll try and spend time on a full review of Bella Sara tommorow. It really awesome.
By the way one of the highlights of my Gen Con experience was when PhiPhiBabe got a patch for her sash that reads "Gencon Best 4 Days in Gaming". Made my Gamer Mom heart proud.

I'm SO glad it went well! It would be super cool to see you at the GS National Conference next year. I'm really hoping to be able to go! I went to the one in Atlanta as a National Council delegate.
