What'd everyone (who went) do at GenCon? Anyone go anywhere else in Indy?
I mainly played boardgames & walked around the dealer hall. Ate at the Ram, but was rather disappointed with their food versus last year. Found out about this site from a Gamer Concepts t-shirt, so that was a good thing.
I've gotta run, but if I can I'll edit this later to list what I actually played & bought.

Daughters new to gaming
We have two girls 6 (almost 7) and 15 that are just getting into gaming. We went to our first Gen Con this year and that really jump started their interest. This weekend instead of cleaning house like we planned we played our first D&D game with our oldest. (pre-boxed) She loved it so much that she and Daddy rolled her a character and a familiar for her character. Daddy also played a number of games of pirates with the little one. She loved kicking Daddy’s “booty”. She is also now hooked on Bella Sara.
We felt the same way...
When PhiPhiBabe enjoyed Gen Con as much as we did that's when I knew that unless something drastic happens in her teens, she will always enjoy this with us as a family hobby.
Can't wait
I can't wait until PhiPhiBabe is a couple years older and ready to start playing D&D.
Here's a brief synopsis of what I did at Gen Con
Just like MikeIT I also feel like I was really busy but didn't do a lot of things.
Making sure PhiPhiBabe got a good impression of Gencon was my biggest focus and I feel that went over very successfully.
When we went to the Gen Con forums Gamer party The Stink I got to meet a bunch of the GamerWenches. We all wore purple ribbons on our badges to help us identify each other. Because of that I ran into PhaePookah (a fellow Gamerwench) and got to play in her awesome Elfquest RPG. I'm a huge Elfquest fan so I got to completely geek out without embarrassment.
I also attended a seminar by the Bad A$$ Gamer Girls all about creating rich detailed character backgrounds.
I ran Best Friends: Homecoming Havok in which my players played high school girls who all have various rivalry's toward each other have to put together a Homecoming dance without killing each other.
I also ran A Fairy's Tale which was a little difficult due to the age ranges of the kids and their attention spans. It didn't help that I ran it in the kids room and had to compete with all the games and fun going on in there.
We didn't get to go around Indy as much as I wanted but we got to go to the mall, the Ram and this awesome sushi restaurant who's name escapes me.
Oh and you shouldn't have any problem editing this

I was definitely busy
I feel like I was really busy, but I don't feel like I did a lot. The highlights for me are pretty clear though.
The first was PhiPhiBabe winning the children's category at the costume contest. I am still so proud of her. We also made foam weapons together and got to use them last night. We had fun in the backyard beating on each other though I think I defeated her by making her giggle hysterically a couple times.
Second was running the D&D introduction for women game. It was a lot of fun, and I really enjoyed it. I can't wait to be done with my Master's degree so I have time to run a game again.
Next was my relationship with Privateer Press. I am an official Press Ganger, and I worked a shift for them at their booth. They are a great company and really do a lot to support the people who support their games. They had a little party at Rock Bottom for all the Press Gangers, volunteers, and significant others, and it was a lot of fun hanging out with them.
Lastly was all the contacts I made in the exhibit hall. I focused on talking to some of the smaller publishers because they are always eager for any publicity they can get. I am in the process of talking to a few of them to do some interviews and game reviews for the site.
I always have a great time
I always have a great time at Gen con and did so this year. Of course we were at the Ram, but since we now live in Indy, we went on Weds. instead of fighting the crowds over the weekend. We also went to the Stink Weds night. (an Indy Mavens event).
During the actual 4 days of gaming, I finally got to see Dorkness Rising, which I've been wanting to see. It was FUNNY. Went to the killer breakfast Saturday morning and watched the slaughter. If anyone has never been there, it is a great time and very fun - even if it has nothing to do with breakfast or food.
Visited alot of places in the great hall. Was sure to take my kids past the things that were appropriate for them. The girls love Bella Sara and are now registered online and own trading cards and the whole bit. Had to come back on Sunday so they could be there for Hayden's Q&A session.
Found time for the paint and take. It is the only time I actually paint minis because I'm only so so at it and this way I can do it for free without a huge investment. I have alot of fun painting them and find it worth the wait.
Heard Luke Ski sing whichever evening it was that he was singing. Got to hear some off his newest album as well as some of my favorites. He closed with the Christmas medley in honor of Gen Con's 40th B-day, which made me happy because I didn't think he'd do that one.
Play tested this and that, especially at the WotC booth so I could roll the D20. Got some D&D minis out of that roll, so it was good. Not any money for shopping this year, so we just walked around and looked at most of the tables and grabbed up any swag we could. I always try to stop past Cloud Kingdom games and answer a riddle or two (they post a new one every hour).
I ran through true dungeon as a paladin and had a blast! My party wouldn't go through on hard core, so I haven't had a chance to do that yet, but I survived and that made me happy. True dungeon is a bit expensive, but I think it is worth it. It is NOT a larp if that's what you're looking for. There is no foam padded weapon swinging or in depth charachter RP in true dungeon. As long as you don't enter looking for those things, you should have fun.
Got to meet Gary Gygax and somehow wasn't nervous. It was totally by accident, we just happened to be walking down the right hallway at the right time. My hubby and I said hi and just chatted for a bit then we went on to where we were going. I am usually so nervous and caught up around anyone I am a fan of that I don't know what to say. Chatting with Gary Gygax was just like chatting with any gamer, it came natural and I was just myself. I don't know if he's always so personable, but he sure was then. It was an honor.
And the kids LOVE the training grounds (used to be called the kids track). They go in there and play all day, this game, that game. In the long run, I would think they'd get tired of it, but they never seem to. Infact one of the times I let them join me at the paint and take, they were done and bored long before I was. They wanted to go back to the training grounds! That place is my lifesaver. I don't have to have all the kids with me wherever I go and I get a breather. Its awesome.
Ok that's all I can think of off the top of my head. Oddly enough I didn't really play D&D but I don't usually play it at gen con since I can play at home. Hopefully that won't change once we meet more people in the area.
