Would Watchmen make a good movie?

Finally another comic related column. They're making a Watchmen movie due out in 2009, and my hopes are not high. Seriously, to do it right would make it unmarketable to the majority of the usual audience for comic movies, people who want lots of high adventure and explosions.

Oh this just makes me sad.

Oh this just makes me sad. I love Jeffrey Dean Morgan. He could probably pull off the Comedian very well, he gives good three-dimensional asshole. Why does he keep getting cast as people who die? But...Patrick Wilson? Nite Owl was a slightly tubby middle-aged man, not a trim 20 something hottie. And Billy Crudup? *sigh*

This reminds me of V for Vendetta. As much as I loved the movie, I was really disappointed that they did not keep the original ending. They gave it an ending that evidently Hollywood thought was easier to accept, rather than the real point to all the anarchy. Watchmen is like that. You have to commit to the dark, depressing source material or it's not going to work.

This is going to be like the League of Extradordinary Gentlemen.

Honestly, I think it'll be

Honestly, I think it'll be even worse. It just isn't an "action" comic, and they're going to try to make it one. I don't even have to see a script or trailer to know that. My bones know that. I just hope it dies a quiet death.
