MikeIT and I just got back tonight from our daughter PhiPhiBabe's school Family Spirit Night. We decided to try and get our school to participate in the Million Minute Family Challenge. I mentioned in a previous post about how we were going to be organizing a game night for the event. I had no idea what I was getting myself into at the time I volunteered us to co-chair a committee. It required organizing, gathering games, and volunteers. We contacted a few game companies and three responded with generous offers of donated games to our school for the fund raiser.

  • Out of the Box Publishing sent us games like their famous Apples to Apples, Snorta!, Squint Jr., Apples to Apples Jr. and Blink
  • Mayfair Games sent us games like Settlers of Catan, Bang, Figaro, Theophrastes and Word Jam.
  • Cranium Inc. sent Cranium Family Fun, Blink, and Connect-o-Round.

The night went off without a hitch and over 180 people had sent in RSVP's! Everyone I talked to raved about the night and said they had a great time. One PTA member even had the forethought to call the local media and one of the local TV stations came and covered the event and we ended up on the evening news!

I'm really happy with the outcome of the night. I still have all the minutes of game playing to tally so I'll post an update when I get them all in.

It's not too late to visit www.millionminute.com so you, your friends, and family can still join in and help us reach the million minute goal!

(edit) I just got done entering our total minutes at the million minute website.

Our group played a total of 3,852 minutes!!

Game night

That's fantastic! I'm trying to organize something similar with my son's elementary school or his cub scout pack.

We have had gaming afternoons a few times with kids from our neighborhood.
