Euchre - R U Hardcore??
What is it about this game? It's played with less than half the deck and has relatively simple rules (except that whole left and right deal). But people get hard core about this game. My mom says "you can learn how to play euchre in about an hour, but you won't know how to really play for years and years". I fancy myself a recovering Euchre addict. Seriously. I used to not be able to play just for fun! If I played, it was balls to the wall or nothing. As a result, I could get mean with my trash talking and annoying with my superstitions (have to sit with the direction of the tub, can't touch my cards until they are all dealt, needed my markers to be hearts, the list goes on. and on. and on...) oh and not to mention not being able to EVER play with Newbies and teaching someone the game was simply out of the question!! I used to like never playing a hand out unless absolutely necessary because I knew every card in everyone's hand so I knew if I had my point (or 2) or not. It got so out of hand that people refused to play with me! And for those who don't know me, I am a sweet, kind, gentle person - but this game made me the equivalent of a mean drunk!! What saved me? *laughs out loud* See my post about Settlers of Cataan! lol!

Euchre is an unique game.
Euchre is an unique game. Only those people who grew up in the Midwest, lived in the Midwest or roomed with a Midwesterner actually know the game. I play online at pogo.com and the people who play with no clue as to the strategy of the game is very frustrating. Calling trump with only 1 trump. Getting the lead and not leading trump when you called it. I only get to play it a couple of times a year real world. The main time I play it is at Winter War, our local gaming convention. The traditional Sunday morning Euchre fest at the registration desk is a sight to behold. This is where people sit and bs about the con, how things are going and generally catch up on the lives of people I only see once or twice a year.
